It’s that time of year when we are in the midst of the holiday festivities. A time to enjoy new and old traditions with our loved ones, create new memories, and just be together.
As a mom, I find this time of year a bit more chaotic than I’d like to admit. I do love the holidays, and I embrace them fully, but many times it just feels like another thing on the to-do list rather than an enjoyable experience.
For instance, I was setting up the Christmas tree with my husband and son today. It was so wonderful to see my son’s reaction when we lit up the tree and he placed the first ornament on it. I just melted! So we continued on decorating with minimal chaos as he got distracted by the other decorations and left the glass ornaments alone (yikes!).
But once we finished placing all the special ornaments, I was using the filler ones to complete the tree and all I could think about was maybe that was enough since it would be less work to take it down in a few weeks. It is hard to admit this out loud! But the truth is my time is super precious now that I have a child, and I want to spend it wisely.
So here’s what it comes down to: you want to create those special memories with your family, no doubt, they are so important! But you have to remember that you are important too!

I can relate. This used to be me, and at first I didn’t even know I was doing this. And even when I realized what was happening, I still thought it was for the best of my family that I only focused on them and their needs.
After much soul searching I came to realize how important it was for me to fill my cup first, to be able to give to others. You can’t give what you don’t have! This was a hard lesson to learn, but I’m happy to say being on the other side is much more pleasant! And not just for me, but for my whole family.
I felt it was my duty to help other moms just like you, who might be going through this experience and might not know how to deal with all that’s being thrown at you (toys and all).
